Notice how popular the rage cage concept was prior to covid?  Breaking things, destroying items in a confined space was fun. It was a non-hurtful way to relieve tension. Aggressive action toward items as opposed to other human beings seemed to be socially acceptable.

Paintball USA set up an outdoor rage cage enclosed in chain link fence with wooden walls. There were large crates, barrels, trash cans, old junk, and even glass breakables to destroy. The charge was appropriate per other rage cages. https://www.paintballusa.org/ 

People had a great time relieving stress until a few decided they wanted to not just unleash built up aggression, but ended up destroying the whole set up. So it goes, only a few bad apples can spoil a good thing for others. 

Having said that, the whole rage cage concept turned out to be a big loss with absolutely no profitable gain. Junk or not, it still costs a business money to replace demolished items. 

The Los Angeles County Fire Department began looking into hazardous waste from certain items such as computers, televisions, and other electronics used in rage room smashables. When these items are smashed up, they give off dangerous particles that you don’t even realize you are breathing. The toxic particles are dangerous to one’s health.

There are still some rage rooms around, but not as many as there were prior to Covid. Required wear when in a rage room breaking things is safety goggles, a hard hat, a coverall, and gloves. This outfit will basically protect you from pieces of sharp objects flying around after being hit with a baseball bat. 

Some of the safer rage rooms have tires, rubber crates and trash cans that you can only beat without creating flying debris. Normally, time spent in a rage room ranges from 15 – 30 minutes. Therapists have commented saying rage rooms are not the best way to expel anger due to the violent actions of breaking things. 

There are many sports with similar concepts that help you cope with anger and stress relief. Some are;

• Softball and Baseball.
• Tennis.
• Pickleball.
• Golf.

Any of the sports listed above are using an object to slam a ball which is a similar concept when participating in a rage room session.

No other Paintball Parks in Los Angeles have attempted to have a rage cage at their facility except for Paintball USA. Kids and adults love Paintball Birthday Parties, but we’ve never had any customer interest in having a rage cage birthday party. https://www.paintballusa.org/location

Through the past twenty-five years that Paintball USA has been operating, we have offered other activities such as;

• Airsoft.
• Rage cage.
• Nerf ball.
• Paintball and paintball soft.
• Splatmaster.

The two sports that have held their popularity are paintball and paintball soft games. The main difference between the two are, standard paintball using a .68 caliber semi-automatic marker with marble sized paintballs. Paintball soft, the marker is a little lighter in weight, mainly because the air tank is smaller. The paintball soft marker is a .50 caliber as are the smaller, .50 caliber paintballs.

Beginner and younger players prefer using the paintball soft markers and balls because they have less impact when hit with one. Our referees keep games separate for players using the standard .68 cal marker from the paintball softers.  Finally, splatmaster games, using a pump action, plastic rifle that shoots the .50 caliber paintballs are a great way to get 6–7-year-olds interested in the sport.  https://www.paintballusa.org/about/paintball-soft-and-splatmaster
